#@ Low Price Products

The Canon EF 2X III Extender is a reasonably inexpensive way to double the focal length of of any L series telephoto lens. This is the very first extender I have purchased, so I can not compare it to it's predecessors. But, I am very impressed. I use it with the Canon 100-400L F4.5-5.6IS with minimal loss in quality. Much cheaper than spending $12k for an 800mm lens.

It's obviously intended for use with a tripod, as you will loose 2f stops. But I find most people won't do much shooting hand held with a 400mm lens anyway. You may be able to get away with using it handheld with some of the faster / smaller lenses. You will also have to manual focus when added to a slower lens like F5.6. If you are thinking about using this, do your homework, know it's limitations, and how to use it. It's a great addition for wildlife photography when getting closer to your subject is tricky, or not an option.

I did my homework for months, looking for a projector that I could use for my Power Point presentations at work so I wouldn't have to keep borrowing from our IT department. I didn't want to have to spend $$1,000s on one either. Some of the really good ones can be quite costly. At the same time, I didn't want one that couldn't provide an adequate, sharp picture. I also wanted it for home use to show movies at home or do movie-maker picture presentations for family gatherings. Not only was this projector priced reasonably (I bought mine refurbished for under $300!) but it is so simple to operate and the picture is just great!!! I set it up on a table 6ft away from the wall and get sharp, clear resolution with a screen size of about 5x3 ft. It is light and compact and I carry it around with ease compared with the cumbersome units I used to have to check out. I only hope that I get lots of use from it before the lamp wears out. Only time will tell. I hear that a lamp is costly to replace and that they only have a certain number of life hours before they burn out. So far, I am VERY happy with my projector. It has exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it.

A fantastic lens! I was hesitant to move into the digital realm, because any lens wide enough to still be wide on the DX sensor can be priced in the area of thousands of dollars. As an advanced amatuer, willing to spend money, but not in a position to have an economic return on the investment, anything more expensive then a single paycheck is beyond my means.

But I bit the bullet, and bought the amazing Nikon D70. Lo, and behold, Nikon actually DIDN'T disappoint its customers (like so many other companies which make promises that never come to fruition). The new line-up of DX lenses are amazing.

In my opinion the sexiest of all the new DX Nikkor lenses is the 10.5mm Fisheye (not the most usefull, nor the strongest lens in the series, yet certainly the most interesting, and definitely the least expected). With its 180% field of view, and dramaticly cartoonish effect, I'm sure that many Nikon shooters, myself included will be having alot of fun, and getting alot of laughs at some of the great pictures we'll be taking with this affordable piece of glass.

The grand appeal of this prime is that offers the telephoto reach and fast f/2.8 aperture of Canon's 70-200/2.8 professional lenses, but at far less cost and size. In practical terms, the 200/2.8 is fast enough to shoot nighttime football games that would have slower f/5.6 consumer zooms struggling to reign in motion blur.

Unlike consumer zooms, it also takes well to a 1.4X teleconverter, giving the equivalent of 280mm at f/4. The USM autofocus system is quick, silent, and sure in almost any lighting, and because this 200/2.8 is essentially a longer version of Canon's legendary 135/2, it's plenty sharp all the way from f/2.8. Finally, because it's small and black, the security at sporting venues is far more likely to let you take it inside.

It's not all roses though. 200mm on a 1.6X crop body is a 320mm equivalent. That's a lot of lens to handhold without stabilization. Pure sharpness doesn't stand for much when the whole frame is blurred by handshake. Despite the fast f/2.8 aperture, it takes a lot of light to keep the shutter speeds up, and this lens isn't all that forgiving below 1/400; good technique and proper bracing are essential. My copy suffers further from color fringing around highlights and loss of contrast in sunlight to a greater extent than any other lens that I own. Shooting into the sun, or with the sun just outside the frame, is not a forte.

I have been using the GL1 for nearly 3 years now. I take it out on shoots for a website I work on... sometimes I create QuickTime Movies, sometimes I take stills from footage and convert the stills to .JPG files.
The 30-lux capacity means you can walk into a subdued lighting environment such as a dining room lit by a single candle and get very good, balanced exposure. It is not like an infrared camera or anything, however... there must be SOME non infrared light, or you get nothing.

The 30x zoom can't be beat. You can be 50 yards away from a person and zoom in and get a shot of their nose... in many ways, it must be seen to be appreciated.

Considering the features, the unit is light-weight, but newer digital camcorders of similar strengths are now on the market for far less and weigh half as much. Still, the GL1 is easy to hold with one hand while using the eye piece or the LCD panel.
